Secret Garden with Bernice Chan
Awesome photo shooting with Bernice Chan themed secret garden at CupCat Image. The mysterious atmosphere theme with our collaborated model have gone thru a smooth and wonderful indoor portrait shooting.

The shooting was planned impromptu, it was about 2 days earlier that contacted the model and everything gone smoothly. The theme is decorated and the actual size is very small and tight space. We have to find the inspiration to get through it with limited space but creative composition. Hence I make use of mostly telephoto lens to get close or half body shot. For this shooting session, I booked for only 1 hour.
That is really limited time give, but thank god the studio gave us extra 1 hour for preparation. Hence, for preparation, I only make us of one over head 60 watt LED light (Godox SL60) with octagon soft box as main light. It is more than enough for this type of tiny area and mix with ambient LED light as catch / background light.
The Gears I used
I was using 2 different cameras during the shooting. I used Sony A7r3 with G Master 24mm and Fujifilm X-T3 with 50-140mm. In this tiny space I ended up getting more photos with X-T3’s telephoto focal length. It gave me nice of focus bokeh background. I made use of the foreground flower stand to create foreground interest.
Thanks to Bernice Chan with her own make-up. The tiny butterfly and pearl decoration on her face make the portrait photo shine. She is warm and bright. With the use of G Master 24mm wide angle lens gave more a great perspective of wide shot in this limited space, but I have to be very be careful of the edge distortion. I have to make sure the model is in center of the composition to avoid the distortion problems.
This is my first time to shoot at indoor theme studio – CupCat Image. I am very surprise they have more than 20 themes that occupied 3 units of shop lot. I will definitely try other theme next time and the charges are reasonably affordable. Last but not least, I am very appreciate Bernice’s effort to do her own make-up and pose for me.
I am looking forward to shoot her again. At this crucial time being, the virus outbreak is still a risk for us to hanging out there.
